Robert Hardie, Urban Rep, State Executive
I'm re-standing for State Executive to get the Division back into a position to fight and win parliamentary and council elections at a national, state and local level.
I was appointed to fill a casual vacancy as an Urban Representative on the State Executive on 6 February 2024 - just three weeks before the State Council AGM and elections are held. I've barely had a chance to start - with your support, I can continue to serve you on State Executive and fight to strengthen our Party for the parliamentary election battles ahead.
My commitment to you is simple - I'm not seeking a springboard into Parliament, I'm seeking your mandate to begin the process of reforming our Party so it's fit for purpose for the future.
By electing me, you're not electing someone who'll run off to the next preselection - you're electing someone committed to reforming the Division.
We must change the Division if we're to be electorally successful, attract new members and find talented, diverse and electable candidates for public office. My blueprint is one proposal - I welcome the opportunity to discuss it.
Robert Hardie
I stood for State Executive in 2022, and was appointed to fill a casual vacancy on 6 February 2024. The commitments I made in 2022 remain the same, with a renewed emphasis on constitutional reform to keep the Party alive.
The NSW Division’s Constitution, at more than 270 pages long, is longer than the Victorian, Queensland and ACT Divisions' constitutions combined.
We need principles-based constitutional reform that delivers grass-roots democracy and empowers plebiscite preselections; our starting point must be a Liberal Party of the members, for the members, by the members.
Albanese Labor has already announced plans to reform Australia’s Federal electoral system, including political donation reforms which could have diabolical implications for the Coalition.
The combined might of a Federal Labor government, an unfriendly Senate cross bench and the power of the unions, GetUp!, Climate 200 and others means fundraising will becoming increasingly challenging. Keeping the lights on and the Party ready to fight and win elections must be a key priority for the incoming State Executive.
I support targets that will attract high-quality, capable and diverse female candidates into parliament.
We need more women in parliament, and more diverse candidates that accurately reflect the communities they seek to represent. I’ll work hard with local Conferences to identify quality candidates and support their endeavours to become community-backed and party member-endorsed candidates at elections.
As a Metropolitan-based member of State Executive, I’ll work collaboratively with colleagues across the State to encourage membership growth and active engagement in the Liberal Party. In my own part of inner-Sydney, we need to do more to attract new members and leverage our branches to build our brand, message and presence, with the aim of seeing more Liberal-endorsed candidates elected to local government, and state and Federal parliaments.
Labor governs in minority in Macquarie Street, and with a two-seat majority in Canberra. The looming Federal redistribution will once again cast NSW as the battleground state; we will again be the difference between winning or losing the election. We must be ready, campaign fit and financed if we're to give the nation a Liberal Government it desperately needs.
